Are you still using an Intel-powered Mac? If so, you might want to reconsider upgrading to Apple's newest Studio Display or Studio Display XDR models. These cutting-edge displays are designed to work seamlessly with Apple's M-series chips, but they are not compatible with Intel-based Macs. This means that if you're still relying on an older Intel Mac, you'll need to look elsewhere for your next display upgrade.
Apple's list of compatible Macs clearly outlines the issue. The Studio Display is a stunning 27-inch display that pairs perfectly with Apple's M1, M2, and M3 chipsets. However, it won't work with any Intel-based Mac models. This includes the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2021 and later), the 14-inch MacBook Pro (2021 and later), the 13-inch MacBook Pro (M1, 2020 and later), and the 15-inch MacBook Air (2023 and later), among others. Apple has been steadily phasing out Intel Macs since 2020, and the last Intel Mac, the Mac Pro, was discontinued in 2023.
As Intel Macs become a thing of the past, Apple is also phasing out support for these older models. macOS Tahoe will be the final software update for Intel-based Macs, and Intel Macs won't receive macOS 27. While Intel Macs won't receive further updates, Apple plans to provide security updates for three additional years. This means that while Intel Macs may not receive new features or improvements, they will still be secure and functional for the foreseeable future.
The new Studio Display and Studio Display XDR will be available for pre-order on March 4 at 9:15 a.m. Eastern Time. If you're looking to upgrade your display, make sure you have an Apple Silicon Mac to take full advantage of these stunning new displays. And if you're still using an Intel Mac, it might be time to consider an upgrade to ensure you're getting the most out of your Apple ecosystem.
