The Rangers' revival under Danny Rohl has been nothing short of remarkable, but there's one rule the boss won't budge on. Liam Kelly, the team's backup keeper, reveals the key to their success and why they won't be taking their foot off the gas anytime soon.
A Year of Redemption
It's been a year since Rangers suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Queen's Park, a low point that still haunts Kelly. But here's where it gets controversial: Kelly believes that painful memory is now their greatest strength.
"That day was a wake-up call," Kelly explains. "It showed us what happens when we let our standards slip. We can't afford to be complacent, especially against teams like Annan Athletic."
Annan Athletic: A Serious Threat?
And this is the part most people miss: Kelly insists that Annan, a League Two team, is being treated with the same respect as Celtic. "They've got some talented players, including Tommy Goss, a striker who's just returned to the squad. We're not underestimating them."
A Calm, Confident Squad
The vibe around the team has transformed since Rohl took charge. Kelly describes the manager's impact as "calming" and "consistent." He adds, "We're playing with confidence and without drama."
Goalkeeping Glory
Jack Butland, the team's No.1, has been a key part of their success. Kelly believes his own role in pushing Butland has contributed to the Englishman's stellar form. But even Butland's comeback pales in comparison to Craig Gordon's fairytale story. At 43, Gordon is still making heroic saves, proving age is just a number.
"He's an amazing goalie," Kelly says. "People talk about his age, but they should just judge him on his goalkeeping skills. He could play forever!"
A New Beginning
The Rangers are determined to leave their past behind and create a new, successful chapter. Kelly concludes, "We're in a much better place now. We've learned from our mistakes, and we're ready to prove it on Friday night."
